Portfolio – from ‘Portare’ – to carry & ‘Fogli’ – leaves or sheets. A large carrying case or cover for keeping loose leaves, prints, leaves or maps together. A series or set of prints by an artist or group of artists presented in a protective box or folder.
Colophon
Colophon – (Ko-Lofon) – An inscription or device placed at the end of a book. Containing the title, printers name, date and place of printing. This final discrition fell into disuse as the title page became the principal means of identifying the book or edition.
Artists Proof
A print made by an artist or under their supervision for their own satisfaction or as part of the artists development of the imgae, prior to it being put into a numbered edition or handed over to a professional printer.
